I love it when a plan comes together … avoid.

This Christmas there were two events which warmed my heart, and made me confident that we were making progress in the work at height sector.

The first was the announcement of the “selfie stick” being the most popular Christmas present. I have frequently said that the solution to many work at height problems was a stick. Avoid the need to work at height by using a stick …. and low and behold the “selfie stick” makes an appearance as top present, number one. I must confess I bought one for my brother-in-law, and he immediately started using it to take pictures from previously inaccessible angles.

The second was a conversation I had at a drinks party at which I was a stranger. I was talking to a chap who described himself as a building surveyor/architect, and who regularly worked for our host who was an extension builder. Having answered concerning my job, the chap sucked his teeth about working at height and voiced huge concern about the need to use ladders for surveys. He then explained in great detail, how he had bought a small drone helicopter with a camera on it which had saved him a massive amount of time and which produced magnificent survey photographs. I had to smile.

Two great examples of the many ways that we can avoid the need to work at height with a little bit of thought.
